The Palestinian Claim to Big Ben

Fateh (فاتح, Fātiḥ) is an Arabic-language name that translates to “conqueror”. It is used in many other languages across the Muslim world. It is also the name of the leading party in the Palestinian Authority, spelled Fatah.  It is the largest faction of the confederated multi-party Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the second-largest party in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC). Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the Palestinian Authority, is the chairman of Fatah. The UK now recognises him as the official Palestinian head of state.

Fatah has member status at the Socialist International and observer status within the Party of European Socialists. Fateh in Egypt has a website – Fateh News | Egypt

Tucked away on the website is this little gem of a story of how the UK stole the Palestinian’s clock in 1922 and transplanted it to London, where we know it today as Big Ben
